As I get older I am realizing more and more what my personal style is and that it doesn't matter what other people think. It is kinda funny when you think back to the teen years and how everyone always tried to keep up with the Jones' to be cool. Everyone does it in some sort of way, even as adults we do it. It has taken me a long time to get to a point where I don't really care what everyone else thinks of how I dress, how I decorate my home, or even how I discipline my child.
I was talking to a friend a couple months ago and we were discussing the different things we like and how we'd like to decorate our homes. She mentioned that she has always been afraid of decorating in her style for fear that people would come to her house and think it was grandma-ish, hodge podge, ugly, or cheap. I could really relate to what she was saying because I too have thought this and it has taken until the past year for me to get over it.
With pinterest being out there now, there is so much inspiration for everything that it is almost overwhelming. I have been saving ideas for interior decorating since I first opened my account. It has been fun to go through my board and see a cohesive style. It is a style that I have always loved, but didn't have the courage to do.
I think a lot of times we do things just to please others when really that doesn't matter in this case. A home doesn't have to be magazine perfect, but it should be happy and inviting. I think as long as it is those two things, anyone would love your home regardless of the style that it is decorated in.
Over the weekend, I went to Vintage Market Days with some friends and I picked up this quilt top for $12. It has one spot that has been cut out, but thankfully it is only in the corner so I should be able to just cut the "tail" off and still use it. I love this pattern.
Yesterday I went to Anthropologie looking for a mug to plant some succulents in. While there, I picked up this book Pretty Pastel Style, and started flipping through it. I was so drawn to the ideas inside that I decided to buy it. Sometimes it is nice to sit down with an inspiring book rather than hop on pinterest. It has so many ideas that I'd like to try soon. I love how everything just works together even though the styles may not be the same.
